“At a time when many design professionals concern themselves
with designing interactions, experiences, and services, it seems timely to reconsider the role of objects in design.”
From “The Object Strikes Back: An Interview with Graham Harman”
This project reconsiders objects and their role in design. According to philosopher Graham Harman, his philosophy is object-oriented in that it treats objects as real but with hidden depths. This project approaches a mundane object in multiple perspectives and treat them as not just “not-humans” but have their own qualities and relations. Students were told to get one random object from Muji store and my group (total 2) chose a plastic comb. Starting with analysis of its form, the visual, we imagined and explored in a variety of ways that we have never done before with any objects, beyond what it is seen and being used for.
